Stop Snoring

Is snoring a problem in your house? If so, there may be a simple solution.

What Causes Snoring?

While you are sleeping, the soft tissues in your throat relax. Sometimes those tissues can partially obstruct your breathing passages, and when they do that, they will vibrate, causing a snoring sound.

Sometimes the obstruction is complete. This is a condition known as obstructive sleep apnea, and this would require more aggressive treatment than what we perform in our office. But if the problem is simply snoring, we can help you.

Treatment for Snoring

What we use is a mandibular advancement appliance. This is a plastic device that is worn on your teeth, much as an athletic mouthguard. But it is constructed in such a way as to slightly protrude your lower jaw. This will cause your tongue to move forward, opening up your airway, which can completely eliminate the vibrations of your uvula and soft palate that are the source of the snoring sound.

Not only is this device comfortable to wear, but many patients find that they will have a deeper, more restful sleep.
